Telecommunications Case Study No. 4
Rearrangement and relocation works
Client: Vocus Fibre
Project Location: Bourke and Gardeners Rds, Alexandria
Project Duration: 12 months
PROJECT OVERVIEW
R.O.C. Communications successfully tendered on the relocation and rearrangement of Vocus’ Fibre network to make way for Westconnex road widening, to include new infrastructure, hauling, and splicing.
PROJECT REQUIREMENTS
This project consisted of upgrading and altering existing network infrastructure as well as hauling new high density Fibre cabling in readiness for services to be migrated from the existing cabling.
The existing network required extensive auditing prior to live works, while the service migration was co-ordinated over 20 nights, utilising 6 Fibre technicians.
CHALLENGES WITH THE PROJECT
There were a number of challenging obstacles to overcome on this project, notably, the accuracy of the records for the existing network, the physical network did not correspond with the client’s records, hindering the planning of the migration. As well, the sheer amount of work to achieve during the night works, in restricted timeframes and windows, as to not delay Westconnex with their road widening.
NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
A huge congratulations to the entire team for their enthusiasm and professionalism, in ensuring that, even under the toughest circumstances, the target must be met.
Ryan Ashcroft – Project Manager
Ryan managed the splicing component for the duration of this project.
Ryan’s key roles were to ensure that the project stayed on target and that the client was kept informed throughout its entirety.
Adam Greene – SNR Fibre Technician
Adam co-ordinated the night works with his teams, to ensure that all staff were prepared and well informed of the expectations of each shift.
Comments from Vocus
The client was extremely happy with the outcome, as the extremely tight timeframes were achieved, and all critical milestones met.
