Telecommunications Case Study No. 2
Installation of 20 kilometres of fibre
Client: Sydney Trains
Project Location: Mt Victoria to Bell Station, Blue Mountains
Project Duration: 2 months
PROJECT OVERVIEW
R.O.C. Communications successfully tendered on the Blue Mountains bushfire rectifications Project for Sydney Trains. This included the replacement of 20km of Fibre Network along the rail corridor, which was critical to restoring services affected by the recent fires.
PROJECT REQUIREMENTS
This project consisted of the scoping, rod and roping of 10kms of GST, ULX and pit & pipe, and ultimately hauling 20kms of fibre cable.
CHALLENGES WITH THE PROJECT
One challenge our field staff encountered was the continual fluctuation of weather, which even included some snow. This led to the terrain becoming quite challenging, but in a credit to our field staff, this is did not slow the project’s progress.
NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
R.O.C. Communications received positive feedback from Sydney Trains and layer 2 which led to R.O.C. Communications undertaking more critical cabling works in the Blue Mountains.
Johann Coetzer – Project Manager
Johann was the Project Manager for the duration of this project.
Johann, with support of Layer 2, delivered this project with great communication with Sydney Trains, which led to more works in the Blue Mountains.
Jon Delia – Project Supervisor
Jon was the Project/Field Supervisor for this project.
Jon and his team exceeded Sydney Trains’ expectations by completing the project two weeks earlier than programmed. Jon also received praise for his identification of existing problems within network early, which aided in the speedy completion of the project.
